(What a Week...) 

And it's only Wednesday.

We got our student visas today.  It took soooo looooong, but at least it's over.  I need to pick up the final visa in one month.

My very awesome friend from South Carolina is mailing me a care package - dozens of packets of Taco Bell sauce and socks.  I love my friends.

Y solo es miercoles.

Hoy, recibí la visa estudiantil.  Era un proceso laaaargoooo, pero ahora, está terminado.  En un mes, puedo obtener la visa final.  

Mi amigo bárbaro de los EEUU está me enviando un paquete con mucha salsa de Taco Bell y calcetines.   Claro, me encanta mis amigos.

Soy olvidadiza...

(I'm Forgetful)

Very forgetful!  But from now on, I promise to be more active on my blog.

It wasn't entirely my fault, though. There was a bit of a situation with my housing that made things kind of tense, but everything has been worked out now.  I'll update on this situation once everything is resolved. 

So, since the last time I posted, classes began, we visited the Feria de Mataderos, and I started my ELAP internship at the Formosa Association.  I also began pursuing my student visa.  My mom told me that she's sending me a package for my birthday, so I'll get to experience how quick international postage is.  I also went to the zoo.  

This is Hell Week in Buenos Aires.  The Subte has been on a record-breaking strike, the buses are crazy, and the weather has been pretty nasty.  Oh well - it can only get better, right? 

My boss at Formosa is Don Julio, and I'll be working with a classmate, Riza.  On the first day, we got acquainted with the layout of the office and Don Julio gave us some ideas of possible projects. On the second day, we began planning our projects in more detail.  We'd love to teach one basic health practice every week - hygiene, good diet, exercise, etc.  We're very excited about our internship and we think we're going to work well together.

Soy muy olvidadiza!  Ahora, voy a ser más activa en mi blog.  

No fue mi culpa totalmente porque existía una situación en la casa que era un poco tensa.  Creo que se ha resuelto.  Voy a explicar más luego.  

Despues de la vez previo, las clases comenzaron, visitamos la Feria de Mataderos, y comencé mis trabajos con ELAP.  Tambien, comencé el proceso de obtenir mi visa estudiantil.  Mi madre me dijo que me envió un paquete para mi mi cumpleaños.  Voy a experimentar el sistema postal argentino.  Tambien fui al zoo.  

Esta semana es el Semana del Infierno en Buenos Aires.  El Subte ha estado en huelga por más de una semana, el estado de los buses es loco, y el tiempo ha sido desagradable.  Pues, puede mejorar ahora, ¿no?

Mi jefe a la Asociacion Formoseña es Don Julio y voy a trabajar con mi compañera, Riza.  En el primer día, nos familiarizaron con la oficina y Don Julio nos dio unas ideas para proyectos posibles.  En el segundo día, empezaron a planear nuestros proyectos con más detalle.  Nos encantaría dar consejos semanales sobre salud - la higiene, una dieta saludable, el ejercicio, etc.  Riza y yo estamos muy emocionados y pensamos que vamos a llevarnos bien.

(The Weekend...) 

Not too much to report.  Spent the last few days finding good places to eat and just getting better acquainted with Buenos Aires.  I still haven't gotten a local phone or a Subte pass, but I have used the bus and the subway without dying.  I've been pigging out on sweets and craving vegetables like mad lately.  


I watched a little bit of the Olympics opening ceremonies tonight via Skype.  


Tomorrow we're going to Tigre to take some photos and maybe buy a souvenir and we're going to hit up Chinatown for dinner.  On Sunday I'm going to try to get a few things done before classes begin on Monday, but now it's time to sleep.

No tengo mucho para decir esta noche.  Me pasé los últimos días en busca de buenos restaurantes, y me he estado familiarzando con la ciudad.  No tengo ni un teléfono ni un pase del Subte, pero he utilizado el bus y el metro sin morir. He comido muchos dulces y tengo ansias de verduras.  

Miré un poco de las ceremonias de los Juegos Olímpicos esta noche via Skype. 

Mañana, vamos a ir a Tigre para tomar fotos y comprar algunos recuerdos, y posiblemente vamos a visitar el barrio chino para cenar.  En domingo, voy a completar algunos recados antes de las clases en lunes, pero ahora es hora de dormir.

(I'm here!)

Hey, everyone!  Sorry I haven't posted - I've been really busy since I got here three days ago.


I arrived at Ezeiza early on Saturday morning.  There were no problems or delays with the flight, and I got to sit next to a cool guy from Germany who was going to study in Argentina.  We practiced a little Spanish with each other.  We met up with our guides from ISA at the airport and they took us to Belgrano to meet our host families.  I met Norma that afternoon and she told me that there would be two other students from a different program at the house, so now it's Norma, Meigan, Amy and me in this apartment (which is a very nice apartment just five minutes from UB and ISA).  ISA gave us an orientation to the program and the city that evening.


On Sunday, we got a tour of the city.  We saw different neighborhoods and some important sites, like the Plaza de Mayo and La Boca.  (Pictures coming soon!)  I forgot my camera, but luckily, I had my iPhone with me.  I had alfajores and empanadas - classic Argentine cuisine!


Yesterday, we met at UB and they gave us an idea of what the semester will be like.  Today was the day to register for classes.  I have four on Mondays and Wednesdays an one on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The other days are free!


I love Buenos Aires so far.  It does have some downsides - nothing to eat but meat, creepy guys in the streets at night, and dog poop everywhere - but it's a fantastic city!  I think I'll enjoy my next four months here!

¡Hola a todos!  Lo siento para no enviar un nuevo post.  He estado muy ocupado desde llegué tres días en el pasado.  


Llegué en Ezeiza temprano en la mañana del sabado.  No hubo problemas con el vuelo y me senté al lado de un chico interesante de Alemanía.  Nosotros practicamos el castellano durante el vuelo.  Nos reunimos con nuestros guías de ISA en el aeropuerto y nos llevaron a Belgrano para conocer nuestros familias argentinas.  Me encontré con Norma y me dijo que hay dos otras estudiantes de un programa diferente, y pues, es Norma, Meigan, Amy y yo en un apartamento (es un buen apartamento y muy cerca de ISA y UB!)   ISA nos dieron una orientación al programa y a la ciudad esa tarde. 

En domingo, recibímos una gira de la ciudad.  Vimos diferentes barrios y algunos sitios importantes, como el Plaza de Mayo y La Boca.  (Fotos próximamente)  Me olvidé de mi cámara, pero yo tenía mi iPhone conmigo fortunadamente.  Tambien comí los alfajores y las empanadas.  ¡Alimentos tipicos de Argentina!
Ayer, nos reunimos en UB para una orientación al semestre.  Me inscribí en las clases hoy, y tengo cinco - cuatro en lunes y miercoles, y uno en martes y jueves.  ¡Los otros son libres!

(The Final Days...)

Time has gone quickly - I leave in two days!!

My bags are packed, my final forms are ready and now it's a matter of waiting.  Can you say "NERVOUS"?!  Five months is starting to seem like a long time!

Funny story - I received my acceptance letter from Belgrano a few days ago, and instead of señorita, it has me listed as señor.  Guess I'm a boy now!

El tiempo ha pasado rapidamente -  ¡Salgo en dos días!!

He preparado mi equipaje, las formas finales son completas y simplemente es una cuestión de espera.    ¿Puede decir "NERVIOSA"?!  ¡Cinco meses es un tiempo largo!

Una historia divertida - Recibí mi carta de aceptación de Belgrano unos días en pasado, y en lugar de "señorita", me llama "señor".  ¡Sorpresa!  ¡Soy un chico ahora!

(My Family...)

I got the information on my foreign family today!  I'll be living with a lady named Norma Kania in a two-bedroom apartment about five minutes from the University of Belgrano.

What a coincidence - my mom's name is Norma!

I also found out that there will be two guys on my flight from Atlanta, and I'm hoping to meet up with them.  It would be nice to have a few buddies.  We shall see!

Recibí la información de mi familia extranjera hoy!  Vivirá con una mujer llamada Norma Kania en un apartamento con dos dormitorios que es aproximadamente cinco minutes de la universidad. 

Qué casualidad - ¡el nombre de mi madre es Norma!

También, descubrí que voy a ser dos chicos en mi vuelta de Atlanta.  Espero que podemos encontrarnos.  Sería bueno tener amigos.  ¡Veremos!
